Teaching collection and museum team

Teaching collection

The military part of the tank museum, the training collection of the tank troop school in the German Tank Museum Munster, provides and maintains the majority (over 95%) of the exhibits in the tank museum.

The teaching collection receives intensive support from the hobby commanders. The well over 150 large exhibits that can currently be viewed in the exhibition owe their good condition to the hobby commanders. These volunteers support the educational collection in the care, maintenance and presentation of the exhibits. For example, they carry out warm-up phases on selected vehicles and rectify minor defects with the available on-board resources.

The teaching collection has existed since 1973 and is the largest teaching collection and an integral part of the Bundeswehr’s museum and collection system. It is subordinate to the Munster Armored Forces School and works very closely with the civilian museum team.

The civilian part of the museum team is made up of management, staff and visitor services.

The museum

The official sponsors of the building are the town of Munster and the German Armed Forces.

The city organizes the operation of the museum and the tourist aspects through the museum team, while the Bundeswehr provides and maintains the bulk of the exhibits through the teaching collection of the tank troop school.

The “Verein der Freunde und Förderer des Deutschen Panzermuseums Munster e. V.” supports the work of the museum through membership fees, criticism and suggestions. The advisory board, which is made up of representatives from politics, the military and science, advises the museum.

Another indispensable group are the so-called “hobby commanders”. These volunteers are responsible for the technical maintenance and (if necessary) repair of the vehicles. Their work is essential to the work of the museum.

The Advisory Board

The German Tank Museum Munster is advised by an advisory board made up of representatives from politics, the military and science.
